Steve's interest in solar began when getting solar for his new ‘old’ home. Navigating the myriad issues around it was challenging and intriguing. He found that not only was he going to be saving money, but would be becoming a part of the democratisation of the once monolithic energy system.

With a background in the welfare sector, the labour movement and refugee assistance, Steve wants to help ordinary citizens to come together to understand and promote this important part of the transition to a clean sustainable society. SA has been a pacesetter – now we need to up the pace!

Ian, having always liked the idea of making your own power, got the chance to install solar a year ago. He noticed the chance for the growing numbers of rooftop energy producers to organise to make sure Australia keeps moving towards a clean energy future.

A long term volunteer in his community centre and the OzHarvest food rescue organisation, Ian sees the potential for the grassroots to mobilise and have an effect on the decisions of our elected governments.

John migrated to Adelaide from the USA in 2009. He holds degrees in statistics and mathematics, and has been a lecturer in economics for several years.

Last year, his tennis club was stopped from installing solar panels by SA Power Networks, and John quietly began mounting a legal challenge.

He met with his MP, notified several public bodies, and spent months researching the regulations.

In May, 2014, he brought the case before the SA Energy and Water Ombudsman, and ultimately to the Australian Energy Regulator. In June, John joined Solar Citizens.

My name is Valdis Dunis. I'm semi-retired, but previously I was in commercial rooftop PV in South China for about 5 years, and part time with The Solar Project which is an Australian-based solar design, installation and maintenance company handling medium to large commercial PV systems.

I also installed a home system last year. I love solar, it's exciting and fast-changing, and as well as being a business, it lets me feel good about helping the planet and society. Best field of work so far in my life!
